The brief for this design was to create a t-shirt you would wear. I am a big music fan, specifically heavy metal so I wanted to pay homage to my favorite band, Converge. The inspiration was drawn from a black rider from The Lord of the Rings, my favorite book and movie trilogy of all-time. The lyrics on the bottom of the design are from the song titled "Dark Horse" off the album Axe to Fall.
The illustration was rough sketched and then I applied some drawn textures in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted some dark, muted tones to give an ominous look. The silhouette of the rider with the crescent moon in the background speaks to the lyrical content. It's a moody theme with a hopeful message.
I consider myself to be somewhat of a dark horse so this piece was fun to evoke some of my personality into a design. I thought it would pop on a white t-shirt which I have mocked up to see how it would look on apparel.
