This design called for a greeting card. I chose to design a birthday card inspired by my daughter, Clementine. She is obsessed with axolotls, a salamander like creature native to Mexico.
I wanted to create a fun, festive, and cute axolotl and have party themed illustrations on the front and inside. Pizza is one of her favorite food items and I thought it would be exciting to have the axolotls dancing on the pepperonis kind of like they're perched on lily pads. The color palette and shapes are light and rounded to keep it friendly looking. Everything was illustrated by hand first and then placed into Adobe Illustrator.
This design was printed and given to her on her 8th birthday which resulted in about a 5 minute hug.
