We were instructed to design a movie poster in our Adobe Illustrator college class. The focus was to make something that tells a story but has a lot of typographical elements to it.
I chose one of my favorite films by legendary director John Carpenter titled "They Live". It's about a man who finds a pair of sunglasses that shows him what the world really is. It's a story that combines sci-fi and our obsession with consumerism.
My approach for this design was to focus on the main character and how he sees the world through his lenses. The bubblegum is a nice nod to a classic line from the film and the color palette was chosen to give it an '80s vibe. I wanted to use a rough newspaper effect on the edges to add the subliminal messages the film conveys.
This design was an absolute blast. I love movies so the possibilities were endless.

Long live "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
